The Waldorf Astoria Riviera Maya is a convenient 20-30 minute drive from Cancun Airport depending on traffic. The hotel’s 170 rooms are spacious and all pool or ocean view / ocean front. Ground level rooms are all swim up suites. The beach is narrow but long so those who like long beach walks will find plenty of room to stretch their legs. The hotel has 3 restaurants, a pool bar and a smoothie bar along with the traditional Waldorf Peacock Alley where you can get an early coffee and late night cocktail. Restaurants are all a la carte. The food quality is high at the hotel in every venue, especially at Malpeque and surprisingly the pool bar. Guests should be aware that the food and beverage pricing is reflective of the resort’s efforts to promote an exceptional culinary experience.

The hotel IS 6 levels. Ground level rooms are swim up suites. The basic room type is very similar but rates and categorization will vary based on the location of the room within in the hotel. I recommend requesting rooms on the 5th and 6th floors for the best views. The hotel has a large spa (21 treatment rooms) that is also open to guests of the next door Hilton (same owner) but there is a separate entrance for off-site guests. The spa area is luxurious and includes a hydrotherapy circuit. The gym has updated equipment, TRX and weights, mats etc… The hotel offers a variety of complimentary onsite programming including morning yoga/pilates/stretching, in-pool workouts as well as live music and cultural activities. Currently there is construction on a new hotel next to the property but the noise during my stay was not disruptive. During my stay in April guests included couples, small business meeting participants and families. It’s perfect for a long weekend given the proximity to the airport and onsite amenities.
